Glass Beach

Nature corrects another of our mistakes, Yes no one would have believed in the last years of nineteenth century that a garbage area will turn in to protected area. Yet that is exactly what happened to that area and known to be called as GLASS BEACH just out side fort of Bragg in California..

The residents there has no refuse collection so they throw the garbage over the cliffs above the local beach. They continued to dump the garbage with relish and in great volumes of glass, household appliances and even motor vehicles. After in 1960's the city leaders and water board forced the closure of the beach as illegal dump.

They started removing all the large pieces of trash, but the waves have done their work much on the glass which had been thrown over the side of cliffs. the waves and the weather had smashed the glass bottles in to small, smooth, rounded objects - millions upon millions of them.

After the name glass beach was adopted instead of the previous one the state park of california incorporatingthe glass beach and the surrounding twenty acres into the Mackerricher state park.

this is not the only glass beach created by nature. there are glass beach in california(Benicia), Hawaiian bay of Hanapepe, Guantanamo Bay they are all testament to the power of nature to correct the mistakes of humanity.

The beach has become very popular with tourists, many of whom search the beach for the most attractive piece they can find so that they can take home as mementos. once upon time it had been illegal to dump glass on the beach now, it is against the law to remove it from the same dump.
